Depending on the selected study and its sensors, the biomedical engineer may ask the patient to perform short actions such as opening and closing the eyes, looking in different directions, taking a breath, moving a limb, changing position or making another simple movement.
The aim is to check whether the relevant recorded signals respond in the expected way before monitoring begins. This additional quality-control step may help identify connection or placement concerns before the patient goes to sleep.
Biocalibration does not guarantee a perfect overnight recording and cannot prevent every possible sensor issue. Sensors may still loosen or shift during sleep, which is why patients also receive device-specific guidance.
